    A univalve mollusk of the genus Haliotis. The shell is linedwith mother-of-pearl, and used for ornamental purposes; the sea-ear.Several large species are found on the coast of California, clingingclosely to the rocks.

        There's a game called Abalone where marbles are pushed around a chinese-checker-like board. Getting Abaloned is when your marbles are knocked out of the game. That is, you get worked.

            A mollusk related to the sea snail, eaten fresh, dried and salted, or cooked in dishes similar to clam chowder. Known as awabi in Japanese cuisine, as loco in South American, as ormer in the English Channel, as muttonfish in Australia and as paua in New Zealand. Its iridescent shell is a source of mother of pearl.
