A poisonous organic base (a ptomaine) formed in thedecomposition of protagon with boiling baryta water, and in theputrefraction of proteid matter. It was for a long time consideredidentical with choline, a crystalline body originally obtained frombile. Chemically, however, choline is oxyethyl-trimethyl-ammoniumhydroxide, while neurine is vinyl-trimethyl-ammonium hydroxide.[Written also neurin.]
