Any one of numerous species of marine gastropods of the genusScalaria, or family Scalaridæ, having elongated spiral turretedshells, with rounded whorls, usually crossed by ribs or varices. Thecolor is generally white or pale. Called also ladder shell, andwentletrap. See Ptenoglossa, and Wentletrap.
