A crystalline, nitrogenous substance, with a sweet taste,formed from hippuric acid by boiling with hydrochloric acid, andpresent in bile united with cholic acid. It is also formed fromgelatin by decomposition with acids. Chemically, it is amido-aceticacid. Called also glycin, and glycocin.
