Tridacna

A genus of very large marine bivalve shells found on the coralreefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. One species (T. gigas) oftenweighs four or five hundred pounds, and is sometimes used forbaptismal fonts. Called also paw shell, and fountain shell.
