It conducts itself like a member of the <a href="/topic/6281/halogen">halogen</a> group ofelements, and shows a tendency to form complex compounds. The name isalso applied to the univalent radical, CN (the half molecule ofcyanogen proper), which was one of the first compound radicalsrecognized.</p>
