The myth tells of the legend of the Golden Man, or [El <a href="/topic/8663/dorado">Dorado</a>].  This came to be known as an actual place, an empire, where this golden king lived.   There were many treacherous expeditions undertaken during the 1500s in order to find this place, true Indiana Jones styles ([Sir Walter] Raleigh tried to find it too).</p>
