Stasis dermatitis occurs in people who have chronic venous insufficiency of the lower legs, which is damage to leg veins that prevents blood from flowing normally. People develop swelling (edema), <a href="/topic/173300/varicose-veins">varicose veins</a> (dilated, twisted veins) rarely, and lastly stasis dermatitis. Stasis dermatitis usually occurs on the ankles but may spread upward to the knees.</p>
